Seattle Adult Aspergers & Other Square Pegs Meetup
|
The Square Pegs Social Club is a place for those of us on the spectrum to get to know one another and make new friends without having to explain our diagnosis. So many of us have struggled alone for so long. Our social skills may be lacking or misunderstood by most NT people, so this group is being formed to give us a place to call our own where we are the norm. Most groups are geared to families of diagnosed children, therapy and techniques to enable us to blend in. These things will not be the focus. There are very few opportunities for adults, young adults and teens on the spectrum to to just get to know each other and hang out. We are trying to be a place where everyone can be themselves without having to worry about the societal norms & judgements. As the group grows and evolves we hope to expand the number and types of activities for members to engage in like movie night, gaming night, debate night, maybe even trips etc. We would like to be less of a support group and more of a group of friends that help each other cope with a world that doesn't always understand us.

What's New?
-
"I'm so glad this meetup has formed. There isn't much out there in terms of support for asperger adults."
-
"Hey Mark, glad to see you again. It's probably a good thing to have the guy who's hosting the meeting belong to the group ; )."
-
"Cheese! My current cat"
-
"We're still looking for a logo to use for the site. I'd rather not use the puzzle ribbon thing being used by all the other Autism Spectrum meet ups, but I'm not readily finding anything I like. Pleas..."
-
"I think of these as one of the signature Aspergian traits. As listed in my profile, mine is guns and weaponry. As part of the getting to know each other process, I'm hoping people will tell us a little..."
-
The poll "What type of activities would you like to see this group schedule?" was created today.
-
"Hi Terry. Thanks for joining our group! We will looking forward to meeting you on the 12th! See you then! Linda"
-
"Hi David, Welcome to the group! We are just getting started in the Seattle area and I am really looking forward to meeting your and your son. Feel free to email me anytime. I hope to see you on the 12th! Best, Linda"
-
"Howdy, I'm Case, Linda's son. I'm 25, diagnosed late last year and still trying to get my head around the fact that I'm autistic. I'm hoping this group can help people like me discover that we're not alone, and that we have something to contribute."
-
"I have a strong case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Tourette, with a little Asperger, Sensory Integration Disorder, Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, and some other things. I'm glad that Linda started this group."
-
"This is the place to continue the conversation between Meetups. As we get more members, I'm hoping that we can get a lively board going here. I personally find that I prefer things like message boards..."
-
"Though we are primarily a social club for people who aren't naturally social, we feel that by extension this will function as a support group as well. For many of us, our lack of friends is a huge hole..."
